Antique Edwardian Mahogany and Inlaid Revolving Bookcase

An antique Edwardian mahogany revolving bookcase, circa 1901–1910, inlaid with satinwood and standing on four cabriole legs. The two-tier bookcase is divided into four sections on each level, revolving smoothly to allow convenient access to books from all sides. The sides are detailed with fretwork panels, while the base incorporates a small inlaid shelf uniting the legs and providing additional stability. The top is crossbanded and bordered with inlay, with further fine inlaid decoration to the frieze and uprights.

Compact in form yet practical in design, revolving bookcases were devised to provide efficient storage and easy access to a library within a limited footprint. This example is well suited for use in a lounge, study, or library, or as a decorative and functional piece in any room.
