A late 20th century oak wainscot armchair, made in the 17th century William & Mary style. The chair features a shaped scroll cresting rail above a solid central splat, supported by turned uprights and arm supports. The curved arms terminate in flattened hand rests, and the plank seat is raised on square legs united by stretchers.
The design reflects the robust character of late 17th century English country wainscot chairs, known for their solid oak construction and restrained detailing. While inspired by period William & Mary examples (1689–1702), the finish and construction indicate it is a later revival piece.
A substantial and decorative armchair suitable for use in a hallway, study, or country-style interior.
