An antique mid-Victorian mahogany pedestal desk, circa 1850–1870, fitted with 9 drawers and a superstructure incorporating a full-width cupboard with sliding doors.
The rectangular top has been re-leathered in green with a gilt tooled border. The superstructure opens to reveal a series of vertical partitions suitable for books, documents, or correspondence. The kneehole is flanked by pedestals, each containing graduated drawers with turned wooden pulls. The central drawer is fitted with a removable sliding tray with three recessed compartments, likely intended for coin or stationery.
The reverse is fully veneered, allowing the desk to be placed either against a wall or freestanding within a room.
Well suited for use as originally intended, this piece also adapts comfortably to modern settings, serving as a writing desk, computer workstation, or focal point within a study or office.
