A Victorian British South Africa 1877-79 Medal, 1 Clasp, 1877-8, Corpl. A. Havinga Albert Burgs including family research, medal and award rolls. Nearly very fine condition.

Antonie Johannes Havinga was born in Burgersdorp, Albert, Eastern Cape, South Africa on 11th June 1846. He had a total of 8 brothers and sisters and the years of deaths of his brother could indicate that they also fought and 1 possibly unfortunately died in the Zulu wars(1879).

Antonie served in the Albert Burghers, and approximately 265 medals were awarded to this unit. The Albert Burghers were a unit of South African Volunteers, the unit was named Albert because of the magisterial district, and they engaged with the Gaikas, Galekas and other Kafir Tribes in 1877-8.
